Art gallery opens in memory of much loved colleague
On Saturday 30th November The Mercury Shopping
centre officially opened ‘Daniel’s View Gallery’ an art gallery space on level
three of the centre. The gallery has been open for a few months now in conjunction
with ‘The Big Draw’ after The Mercury won the ‘Community, Libraries and
Participatory Award’ this year, but was
given it’s official name after the sad passing of much loved staff worker,
Daniel Jean-Jaques, who recently lost his battle with cancer are naming the
gallery space on Level 3 after him.
The first official exhibition ‘Views of
Havering’ will showcase work by award winning local photographer Barry Jones.
During his time in hospital, Daniel was always
documenting his local landscapes and this exhibition will showcase some of the
best views Havering has to offer. Barry Jones’ locally loved work captures the
natural beauty of the borough and its nature. The exhibition will continue
until Christmas.
The shopping centre also
raised a massive £501 on Saturday with a fun filled fundraiser day with
proceeds going to one of Daniel’s much- loved charities, Cancer Research
UK. Daniel’s line manager Jon Guerrio
says; ‘ Daniel
was a very popular and very well respected and liked person, he was a kind
loving hardworking family man who would do anything for anyone and would put others
before himself, we set up this event in his name which he would have
appreciated immensely ’
