Bringing the community together over Christmas

Bringing the community together over Christmas

Bringing people together for Christmas

Four local community organisations for lonely people came together to create a Community Christmas Variety Show, with music, food, and games. Hosted at Premiere Cinemas in The Mercury Mall, members of House of Polish & European Community, Havering Asian Welfare Association, Di’s Diamonds and Geezers, and The Breakfast Club, came together for some free festive fun.

Everyone was greeted with a hot drink on arrival and a chance to mingle before the entertainment started. The party atmosphere made it easier to socialise and it also gave everyone the opportunity to experience each other’s culture. Tatiana from HOPEC sang traditional Christmas carols translated into Ukrainian, Veena Jain from Storm V Academy encouraged everyone to get up and dance Bollywood style, and Brandon Ambrose sang classic Elvis songs.

Lesley Davey from Age UK RBH said ‘We can’t thank The Mercury and Premiere Cinema enough for their hospitality towards lonely people. It brought together the community, especially important during this time over Christmas.’

Dicing With Life, a local gaming club brought over 100 games for people to play encouraging everyone to try something new. Gaming can be very beneficial for our mental health and is a good way to connect with others.

The afternoon was topped off with a free raffle, tickets were pulled from a hat where two gift hampers were up for grabs.

These four organisations run all year round and are open to new members. For more information on joining please visit the club’s website.
