Honouring Commemoration at The Mercury Mall
At 11.00am on Wednesday, 1 November, the launch of the 2017 Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal takes place at The Mercury Mall, Romford. Standard bearers from the Royal British Legion branches in Romford, Upminster, Elm Park and Cranham joined Councillor Linda Van den Hende, Mayor of Havering, Andrew Rosindell, MP for Romford and Roger Ramsey, Leader of the Council at the launch.
“Each year, we are delighted to be able to host the official launch of the RBL poppy appeal,” says Natalie Bays, Deputy Centre Manager of The Mercury Mall “and to be joined by so many key members of Romford and the surrounding area, we are finding new ways to highlight our annual poppy appeal campaign.”“We are particularly grateful to our shoppers who always dig deeply into their pockets,” continues Natalie. “We are hoping that the money we raise will, in some way, help the British Legion meet their 2017 target. As usual our lovely poppy sellers will be located near our helpdesk area from 28th October through to Saturday 11th November, and this year we will be involving our community in raising more money for the appeal, and also raising awareness of the poppy appeal charity.
On Saturday 28th October we will be holding a free drop in workshop from 11- 3pm for children to design and create their own poppy to add to our community wreath, which will be presented to the poppy appeal on our official launch on Wednesday 1st November alongside The Mayor and Andrew Rosindale MP. Finally on Monday 30th October our weekly breakfast club meeting will be dedicating their time and efforts to knit over 100 beautiful limited edition poppy pins for the appeal to sell-on to raise money. Hopefully our efforts will help keep the profile of the appeal in Romford.
To help the Royal British Legion raise these funds, they are always appreciative of the help of volunteers who give up a small amount of their time. Anyone interested in helping should contact Pam Morrison, Hon Poppy Appeal Organiser on 01708 740629.
