How to make a magical Christmas
Wouldn’t it be great to find some fun new things for your family to do this Christmas? We think you’ll be spoilt for choice once you learn everything we have planned this November and December. Here’s how you can get your Christmas off to a great start…
Get started early
Extend your family’s fun this holiday by visiting Santa’s Grotto, open in the Mercury from November 11 through to Christmas Eve. Santa will be ready to meet you from 10am – 5pm and on Sundays at 11am – 4pm. If you like it a little quieter and calmer, you can book a session at our sensory Santa’s Grotto that’s open every Tuesday from 5 pm - 6 pm between now and Christmas. We dim the lights and turn down the music to create an autism-friendly environment and make sure everyone has a chance to spend time with Santa, in a place they can relax and enjoy.
Try some Christmas activities with a difference
Break the mould; why not give something new a try this Christmas. Come and visit our Nordic Fair that will be open on November 23. It’s a great place to find some unusual, quirky gifts. For a daring twist to your, Christmas come and take part in the Mercury’s Escape Rooms. The entire centre is transformed, as participants will need to crack clues, solve puzzles and explore the centre after hours to solve the mystery and save Christmas! Booking for this event is essential – visit our Facebook page or give us a call to reserve a place.
Join in the party
On December 14 and 15, the characters inspired by the film ‘Frozen’ will leave their icy wonderland to host a right royal party at the centre. There will be fun, games and prizes for all the children to enjoy. Book a place now to make sure they don’t miss out. Throughout December you should keep an eye out for another legendary character, as Marvin the Monkey is coming to stay this Christmas and will no doubt cause a whole heap of mischief. Follow his adventures on our Facebook page and throughout the month he’ll be offering you the chance to bag some extra treats for your stocking. In the final week before Christmas, when you’re wishing most for a Christmas miracle as you dash around for those last-minute gifts, don’t forget to check out magician Trevor Cline, who will be at the centre on December 21 and 22 with a sprinkle of Christmas magic.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
We know that in the run-up to Christmas there’s so much to do and organise – but don’t stress, we’re here to help. From December 16 you can find your own Christmas elves at the Mercury, who for a small donation to a good cause, will be on hand to help you with some of your Christmas wrapping. There will be several volunteers from different charities, helping bring us all together this Christmas and make sure that for everyone, it’s a merry one.
Keep up traditions
Join us in the first week of December for a traditional dance and sing-along. Every day we’ll have a performance from local choirs and dance groups and a special appearance from the winner of the ‘Havering Voice’. For more details on the line-up keep an eye on our Facebook.
