Knitting for Queen's and King George Hospitals

Knitting for Queen's and King George Hospitals

Members of The Mercury's breakfast club knitted twiddle-muffs and hand-muffs which were donated to  Queen's and King George Hospitals for dementia patients.

The six knitters who participated are keen knitters and meet regularly at the breakfast club in  The Mercury, they meet once a month to knit, and have previously donated over 150 blankets to the neonatal wards in Queen's.

Some of the knitters went to Queen's hospital to personally hand over the knitted twiddle-muffs and hand-muffs  to dementia patients as well as speaking to support practitioners who work very closely with dementia patients.

Vija Elias, dementia support practitioner at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs both hospitals, said: “We are so grateful to receive these twiddlemuffs. They will really benefit our dementia patients."

Carol Fletcher, one of the knitters, said: “My mum has dementia and this is very close to my heart so I’m delighted we were able to help. I have knitted a twiddlemuff for my mum to help her also."
