Men's Health Week
Three times as many men as women
die by suicide.
Men aged 40-49 have the highest
suicide rates in the UK.
Men are less likely to access
psychological therapies than women. Men are far more likely than women
to go missing, experience
homelessness, become dependent on
alcohol and use drugs frequently.
Men’s Health needs a
slightly different approach. We know that far
fewer men are diagnosed with mental illness than women, and yet 75% of suicides
are male. Barriers to reaching out include stigma, but also campaigns that men
cannot identify with.
All On Board; and North East London NHS Foundation Trust joined together with guests that included the CAMHs, working age adult, older adult services, Havering Samaritans, Change Grow Live, 12 Step Programmes, Co-Op; Mind, Havering Public Health, Age UK, and Talk 4 Health. Conversations were had around mental health and suicide, loneliness, wellbeing, and how to access or signpost someone to support.
There will be a stand on Level One of the Mercury that will give information about local mental health services for everyone, but
more specifically men.
Monday June 13th, 10:30am until 2:30pm Level One Events zone.
