Romford's Mercury Mall raises more than £700 with Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Saturday residents took
a break from their shopping to enjoy cakes and support The Mercury in raising
money for Macmillan.
Visitors to The Mercury Mall in Romford were
invited to have a cake and a cuppa on Saturday, September 28th as part of
Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
As well as a mouth-watering selection of
cakes baked by members of the Mercury’s staff and Breakfast Club ladies, there
were also knitted and crocheted novelty cakes as soft toys for children and
handmade cards.
“Our Macmillan coffee
morning was amazing, we are so grateful to our retailers, Breakfast Club
members and work colleagues for their donations and brilliant cake making
contributions. We were overwhelmed with the array of cakes; it looked
delightful. Our Breakfast Club members and staff helped on the day serving and
worked tirelessly throughout. It really warmed our hearts to witness the
generosity of support and contributions from our customers and friends.
We not only offered tea and cake, but managed to spend time to chat, listening to
their own stories and experiences was a pleasure. Many people came back
for seconds and took more cake home for their families; recipes were even
exchanged. Every piece of cake sold, and although we were a little tired
by the end, we were buzzing from how well the day went, especially when we knew
the staggering amount that we raised for Macmillan. We are already
discussing ideas for next year! I would like to thank everyone who
supported our event, we could not have done this without you.”, said Karen Sach,
Helpdesk Ambassador of The Mercury.
“Last
year we raised an amazing £265.35 and this year a staggering £743.20 proving,
once again, just how generous our shoppers can be.”
Centre
retailers McDonald’s, BB’s Coffee & Muffins, Wilko, Asda, Subway, Premiere
Cinema and Godfrey’s The Bakers also contributed to the event by donating
doughnuts and cakes.
